Double Vision - happy to use two eyes again

Have some good news to share.

I had my AN removed in June 2006. I've had double vision since my AN was removed and have been wearing black tape over my left glass lense. Today I saw an eye specialist and left with surgery scheduled for August but more importantly I am wearing a prism over my left glass lense and can actually see one object straight on. If I want to see to the left I need to move my head not my eyes but that is ok. I feel like I am getting back to normal even if I do have to have surgery. Face still has paralysis but for now I am just happy I can use two eyes to see.

I praise God for your good news. My daughter has surgery scheduled in September and we are expecting her to be able to get rid of her patch. She had several strokes after the removal of a blood clot.
God is Good ALL the time and all the time God is GOOD!!!

Can you tell me what surgery you are having in August?  Do you have blurriness in your AN eye too or just double vision. I have been wearing glasses since 01/06 with a prism. I have double vision and my left eye is blurry  I would like to get rid of my glasses, and the prism, my glasses are quite thick, but am not sure if they can do anything to help my blurry vision.

Denise, I am having surgery to correct my double vision. It has been over 1 year since my AN was removed and the specialist does not feel my eye will get better. It appears after the examination I have three muscles that will need to be "fixed". I don't have all the details on how they are going to fix my eye but from what I understand it is like an alignment where they will adjust the muscles so my eye looks straight forward with my other eye. I was so happy to get a prism on my eye glasses (must be a temporary one since it is a "stick on") and I feel like a normal person again. I was tired of having a dark light over my left eye and looking ridculous with black tape over my glasses.

I can see ok out of my eye with double vision, I am getting my left lense priscription filled for my up close visioin and some stigmatism. But right now I can see pretty clear with the exception of the prisms that do sometimes bug me.

From what I understand once the surgery is done I will have turn my head to the left as opposed to darting my eyes to the left but that is ok, I am practicing now with my prisms and so far it is working out.

p.s. If you do decide to get surgery, make sure you go to an eye surgeon. My opthamologist did not have the expertise and recommended I go to Shands Hospital at the Univ of Florida.

Hi TP,Did you have the surgery for the double vision?I also have double vision for about 1 year following my op in aug 07,they said i could have this sergery this year aug 09.

I've had the eye muscle surgery done for my double vision about two years ago.  My double vision was vertical and horizontal!!!  I had 3 surgies to correct it.  I still had to have a little bit of a prizm ground in my glasses, but you can't even tell.  I have no feeling on my AN side so the surgery wasn't painful at all.  I stayed in the hospital the first time, just because I have no feeling in that eye.  The last two   I went right home, not even a black eye only real bloodshot.  Any questions feel free to ask.  Karen

Hi Karen,mine is vertical,did you get double vision straight after your op?I got mine after having had a botox injection to close my lid,my eye was shut for 3 month and when the botox wore off and my eye lid opened i had double vision.But after seeing my neuro surgeon he said it was to do with the brain stem.They are going to wait till aug 09 thats my 2year post op and do the surgery then if it hasnt gone by then!!!

I had my brain tumor removed on 6/5/2006 and when I woke up from the surgery I had double vision. It was pretty bad, I had to cover my eye glasses with black tape and wore that for almost a year then I got a prism and used that for about 4 months. My Dr was a eye specialist at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL. She had been treating me for about 4 months prior to the eye surgrey. I had surgery to correct my double vision. It was a two day process, the first day I went into the hospital as an outpatient. I went home after about a 2 hours of surgery and my eye looked horrible. My eye had been facing my nose then after the surgery it was facing the oppositive direction. The next day I went back into m Dr's office for her to pull the loose stich into place. She had to manipulate the eyeball and it took about an hour. It was very difficult but I was not going to leave there until my eye was straight and I could see normal. She worked on it patiently and about an hour into it she got the eyeball in place and I was seeing normal and she then tied the stich and I was able to see without my prism. My eye was blood shot red and swollen for about a month. A few months later I had my eye weight removed by my first eye dr. The only problem I have is I still have paralysis on my left side of my face but I at least look normal for the most part.

My eye is very dry, I have no tears and with the cold weather (yes even in Florida we get cold weather) I find I have some troubles with my eye at times but it is something you just get use too.

I totally recommend this type of surgery. I do recommend you find a Dr that is experienced at doing this type of work and one that is very patient. My dr was wonderful and I highly recommend her!
