Title: face pain
Post by: Patti on May 10, 2006, 08:17:48 am
I had surgery 5 1/2 years ago (4 cm) and have had facial numbness along with lots of other things.  I have always gotten sensations of itcing, twitching, and mild bursts of pain.  Twice recently I had bursts of severe facial pain that stop me in my tracks.  Fortunately I wasn't driving.  Does anyone else have this or know what it's about?  Patti

HI Patti, I get like a phatom pain which is intense but only last for a few seconds.  I had a sharp intense pain in my ear and regained some of my hearing so I'm hoping it means my facial numbness will go away!  I want my tongue back!

Patti - I am 8 years post op and still getting weird sensations and some additional healing. My doctors continue to scatch their heads in amazement. Some say it is the facial nerve misfiring and some say I could still be healing, even at this length of time.

If I were you, I would definetly mention it to your doctors since you are 5 1/2 years post op. If it is the facial nerve misfiring, they could give you medication.

Keep us posted

Hi Patti,

When it comes to nerve pathways, it always seems to effect people differently. I've had the left side facial numbness since surgery that is gradually improving but have never experienced any sharp pains or even headaches for that matter. When is your next MRI?
Mine is tomorrow believe it or not!
