I have FINALLY begun to see some facial movements the past few months (now nearly 2 years post op). My AN side upper lip has a slight snarl. What's up with that? Any ideas? Just curious. Susan

Hi Susan,
Wow that is great, I am not a doctor but it sounds like the nerve is regenerating.......I am also sure that you probably don't look like Elvis!!!
Best wishes,
LisaP ;D

Just a quick comment on the Elvis Snarl. I got the same thing sometime around the one year mark and it was the first sign of hyptertonic muscles (involuntary hypertonicity) - in layman's terms, a muscle spasm in my cheek. This is something that can be worked out with facial therapy/massage. I waited another year before seeing a facial retrainer (Jackie Diels, the wonder woman) and had to work a bit harder to loosen the muscle. By the time I finally got off my hiney and took action, I had a fair amount of pain on that side of my face due to the muscle spasms. Now, however, the snarl is gone and the pain is gone. This is apparently fairly common with facial recovery. You may want to ask your doctor when you next see him if he thinks this is hypertonicity and if so, can he refer you to someone who can help you work on it.
Good luck!

That is great news! Are or have you been doing any facial exercises to help it ?If not there are many you can do-they helped me tremendously.

I am going to a facial therapist on the 13th (Jackie Diels trainee in Nashville). Wish me luck.

Hey, look what it did for Elvis! :D Maybe it's something in the water?
At least something is moving so that's a good thing. Now the trick will be to figure out how to get it to move the way you want it to, but I know Cathey will be able to help you out with that.
While you're in Nashville maybe you can stand on the corner with a guitar and make a little extra cash. When life gives you lemons..... ;D
