Title: Headaches...caused by AN or Fibromyalgia
Post by: Nancy Drew on October 17, 2011, 06:55:17 pm
Hi!

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about three months after I had GK.  I have a headache almost every night, and sometimes I get them during the day.  It vaires between a migraine and a low grade headache.  Trying to figure out which one to blame it on...AN or Fibro!!!  I have my 3 year MRI on Friday.  Always worried when these MRIs come up.  Last year I got a good report.  Thanks for any info you might be able to share about headaches.

Nancy ~

For what its worth: my wife does not have or ever has had an acoustic neuroma.  However, she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia over 15 years ago.  Among other issues she deals with are headaches that are sometimes severe, sometimes mild but that occur on a fairly regular basis.  She takes a relatively high dialy dose of Neurontin (Gabapentin) for pain but depends on OTC medications for the headaches.  They help, sometimes.  I would ask your doctor for his opinion on the cause of your headaches.

I too have a form of Fibro called Myofacial Pain.   I really don't know what the difference is, but when Cymbalta was approved for Fibro my doctor gave me an RX for it and put me on 60mg.   Like magic all the pain and headaches all were going.     These headaches and pain would last all month but after the Cymbalta, I felt fine.

Give it a try if your doctor says it's OK.

What about Lyrica?  I have been presribed it but it is also for fibromyalgia.
Just a thought.
Best to you.

I tried that for a month and didn't help the headaches but had the side effects of no sleep and sever constipation.

Don't do it!

What about Lyrica?  I have been presribed it but it is also for fibromyalgia.

My wife - who suffers with fibromyalgia - tried it (at her doctor's suggestion) and experienced side effects very similar to those Mei Mei described.  However, every person seems to have a different reaction to Lyrica, so a trial may be worth considering.  Just be cognizant of the possible side effects.
