Hey,
I am scheduled to get the eye weight put in at the end of May and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the surgery is like and if they feel that the eye weight is the right way to go? Is it very noticable?
Thanks!

My experience has been great. It was an easy outpatient surgery and I did not even have a black eye from it. I wrote an entry for a journal of my hemifacial spasm experience, available at http://www.hfs-assn.org/diarylinks/shartman-mvd.htm - scroll down or search for August 11, 2008 and the next few entries. There is a picture at August 20 with my eyes closed and one at the very bottom of the page with my eyes open.
It is noticeable when your eye is shut, but not so much if it is open, assuming of course that the surgeon does a good job in placing it.
I definitely think it is the way to go. Good luck!

I had the surgery at the end of February. It was very simple. Post surgery was very easy. Surgery was on Thursday and I was back at work Monday. The only surprise, which turned out to be expected, was having blood well up in my eye a couple of times.
My eye was wide open and would only close to about a 2-3 mm opening. It still doesn't close all the way but is about 1 mm better. The wide open "scared look" is gone and I don't believe my eye gets as dry even though I do still use drops.
I also had a stitch put in the corner of my eye.
Best of luck

I have had eye weights put in twice, a gold weight once and a platinum weight once. Kaybo is the real expert on this issue. I had the gold weight removed because it was so noticeable and I hoped that I had enough improvement to do without it. I recently got the platinum weight. It is much less noticeable.

I was wondering how much does this surgery cost?

Depends on your insurance coverage. Mine was about $1,300 out of pocket.
