I don't know if I've mentioned it around here before, but I love the show Big Bang Theory and they once had an episode where Sheldon was complaining about hearing a high-pitched sound in one ear--"an octave above middle C"--and at one point he said, "sure sounds like a tumor pressing on the auditory nerve..."

I saw a rerun of that ep just after I was diagnosed and I didn't know whether to laugh or cry...  :P

Hi;
   Sort of makes one want to mark the AN side ( so they do the correct side ) before surgery, eh? Lost ... Just think, some of these people are into our cranium!

Funny you should mention that.

In the weeks before my GK I was joking with my friends about doing just that. They talked me out of it as not being a good idea to antagonize the doctors, any one of which might not have a sense of humor.

I put it out of my mind.

So, there I was on the gurney just before being wheeled in for the GK and the technician comes over, hands me a marking pen and has me mark the side of my head where the AN was.

Reminds me of when my daughter had Lasik eye correction & everyone in the waiting room had a little green star over their left or right eye...

They had me  initial the back of my right hand to designate the AN side... hard since I am right handed and had an iv in the back of my left hand

When Mom used to work in nursing home they marked patients going out for surgery after a man's good kidney was removed instead of the diseased one  :o
