Title: Cochlear Implant and Single Sided Deafness
Post by: Dave_S121 on January 24, 2025, 08:28:15 am
I had a 2.2cm turmor in my right ear removed in October 2004 by translabyrinthine approach.  I started wearing a hearing aid in my left ear with a CROS hearing aid in my right ear around 2010.  Over the years my hearing has deteriorated to the point where my audiologist recommends I see a specialist about a Cochlear Implant for my right, deaf, ear.  Her feeling is I might be able to better process words with the implant. I would be interested if anyone has had a Cochlear Implant on their deaf ear.

I would suggest to do lots of research to make sure this will work for you.  I started down this path but was halted when I was told the implant would cast shadows on my future MRIs so my Dr. said it was a no go for me.  I would 1st clarify with your Dr. that this an option that will work for you.  There are lots of groups on FB & so many different stories about Cochlear implants & SSD.

To deal with my SSD on the left side, I now use the ReSound Nexia CROS hearing aids & they has worked great for me but I have no hearing loss in my right ear.  I wish you the best.

Thank you for your response.  I plan on doing more research. I have gone to 1 Cochlear Implant support group on Facebook and posted my situation.  No one has responded that they are SSD with a CI in their deaf side.  I'm waiting to hear from the referal.  I have a lot of questions.
