Hi,
Do anyone knows a case where the tinnitus had died after surgery?.
Cheers,
Praba

Unfortunately, I haven't heard of anyone who's tinnitus is gone Praba. In fact, mine seems worse after surgery.
It was constant before, but now it's louder, & sometimes besides it in the right ear, I get a pulsing sound that
seems like it's coming from dead center at the back of my head. Also, but rarely, I get it in the left ear.
Once in a rare while it stops briefly (YEAH!!), but then just as quickly comes back.

I did NOT have tinnitus before surgery, but I sure have it after.

OK then let us practice to live with this horrible feeling.

That's the spirit Praba ! Cause, if you try & fight the tinnitus, it comes back with a vengeance.
So, as my mom use to say, 'play nice.' lol

Praba, I notice that many posts are from those who had the retrosigmoid approach. Well, here's my answer, tinnitus is ALWAYS with me. While before surgery it was a bother only at night, now it rings with every utterance and sound, 24/7. But, I seldom give it consideration. Yes, it is immortal, but "we" will live together.

Tinnitus is the ultimate irony...that you can be deaf or nearly deaf in one ear, yet it seemingly screams at you. Not a fair deal...but life most certainly is not fair. :(

Not being a doctor, I can't give a qualified 'medical' answer but I suspect that tinnitus is probably a permanent AN symptom, both before and after surgery and/or radiation. We all learn to live with it. What other choice is there?

Praba,
The T will probably not go away. I have it, but I usually don't notice it unless I think about it.

I talked at length with my Dr's about "T" ... I was told there is a small chance it could go away after surgery .. (and as you see here..very small) and a small chance it could get worse ... and most of the time .. it will be the same after surgery .. mine was ...
note --- the first few weeks after surgery I did think it was better .. but remember I was hopped up on morphine and other meds after surgery .. once I started work again .. it was right back to were it was before surgery...

I don't think there is a case of it eventually going away, the noise is one produced by the brain to make up for the loss of stimulation it used to have from the now non-functioning ear. I think there are times when it is more notiable and less (likely related to noise level of the environment one is in).

I have read of a very small percentage 4%- where the Tinnitus improved, and, even more rare, disappeared. Usually, it stays or gets worse, or for those who have not had it, it begins. My Tinnitus has stayed the same...so far, but I'm only a week post treatment. Before the procedure, I had four doctors at two different institutions say that the goal was to preserve use and abilities at the levels before surgery. Some get worse, some get a little better, but the goal is to maintain.

I voted my Tinnitus off of Stevey Idol,
and like that Sanjaya Kid, it keeps coming back even worse. AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!
Cheers, ;D
