Title: Smiling Exercise??
Post by: GM on June 26, 2008, 06:48:07 pm
I saw an interesting article on the CNN website.  It was talking about having a positive attitude and one tip was to put a pencil in your mouth and bite on it lightly…saying that it simulated smiling by using the same muscles.

Has anyone tried this exercise with facial paralysis?  I was wondering if it could help?

Yes I did that two years ago and it did help.

After reading this and not having a pencil handy, I am trying with my little finger.

Any and all tips welcome!!

Thanks,

Gary,
I've never heard of this but tried it.  It does seem to use the same muscles.  What a great idea!  Thanks for sharing the tip.  I'm having surgery on July 25, so facial paralysis isn't a problem for me  and I hope it won't be, but if it is I'll definitely use this.

Gary,

Never heard of this, but I'm going out to buy myself a big box of pencils.  Can't hurt, right!  Unless I bite too hard and wind up with splinters in my mouth....  :o
