Two weeks ago I had my stitches removed. Well it looks like they forgot one....Its sticking out. Tried pulling it but its stuck in there. I will call my neurosurgeon's nurse tomorrow as he himself is on holidays til may 12. Oh what to do???? I'm thinking of going to the local hospital and have them remove it. I really dont feel like travelling 2 hrs to have a stitch removed...ugggg

Unless it is festering and/or obviously becoming infected, I'd leave it alone .... until you talk with your neurosurgeon's office. Did you have gut stitches, staples, or the dissolving kind? It might make a difference on the urgency of removing it or not.

I wouldn't "play" with it unless it's bothering you or, as Clarice said, unless it's obviously infected.
It may not even be a stitch that was left behind. I think someone else on the forum recently thought they had a missed stitch and it turned out to be something else.
This is best left to a medical professional. I'd call your doc's office first thing tomorrow morning.
Please keep us posted.

JO: that happened to me with the T3 surgery. My neighbor removed one stitch, then I went to my PCP to have the staple removed (wasn't about to travel from Fl. to Maryland). Take care, Nancy

Well I called the neurosurgeon's nurse and she said to call my GP to look after it. If GP cant then she is to forward that info the neurosugeon's office and they'll take it from there. Nurse siad stitches have a tenency to work its way out \.

I am pretty sure that Lori one left after one of her surgeries and since she is a nurse, either she took it out or instructed her hubby or neighbor how to do it! I guess it is not that uncommon to miss one!

I have had 2 sitches show up later. Our family dr fixed one and think we did the other. Wasn't my last surgery so has been a while to remember. Wasn't any big deal. Sometimes a deeper one can work out.

Well I went to see my GP who pulled on the stitch and snipped it close to the skin. She said it will either work its way out or disslove over time.

Good! I'm glad you were able to have it taken care of quickly!

I came in late on the account of this situation but I'm pleased to learn that it had a happy ending.
