hello all-
just wondering if there's anyone out there who's had surgery in philadelphia or somewhere close to that? i know if i need surgery i will research but just trying to get ahead of the game incase. i noticed a lot of people traveled very far for their surgery but i don't know if that would be feasible for me. what kind of questions are good to ask regarding a hospital's/physician's experience with an surgeries? thanks for your advice. ;)

Hi Madison,
I'm a jersey girl myself. I haven't had surgery yet but my docs are at Jefferson. Good team i think. Dr Thomas Willcox is the Otorlyngologist(prob spelled wrong) and Dr David Andrews neurosurgeon who i'm consulting with about Radiation. I haven't decided yet but an leaning towards surgery. I've been in watch and wait mode since 2002. Whats your story???

I didn't have surgery in PA - had mine in Illinois - but Thomas Jefferson Hospital is supposed to be the best neurosurgical facility in Philadelphia.
If you're not opposed to going as far as NYC - you should check out Drs. Roland and Golfinos.
Good luck,
Jan

Hi Madison,
If you might consider traveling to Baltimore, Dr. Henry Brem, head of neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, has beaucoup experience, and is just wonderful if you're able to arrange a visit for a 2nd opinion. He, along with Doc Holliday (w/out pistols) performed my retrosig in 2004. Click on this link and enter Henry Brem in the search box at top right. http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/
Good luck in your decision-making!

Madison,
Had surgeries done at Allegheny General hospital in Pittsburgh. I'm from western PA near Ohio border

I second Allegheny General in Pitt. Dr. Hillman, Dr. Chen and Dr. Aziz did my Translab a year ago June 9. I could not have asked for a better experience and traveled from Rochester, NY.
