Leaky Eye
« on: September 10, 2009, 03:36:43 pm »
Since my gamma knife in 08, I have developed leaky eye on the side of the NA.  Anyone know what that might be?

I don't know anything about Leaky Eyes and GK, but my Eye has been leaking like the kitchen sink since my Gold Weight Implant two day ago!?!

Left-Translab July '09. Cyberknife Jan 2010. In Apr 2017, four more tumors found; three in the brain and one, 7cm long, on my spinal cord; it was surgically removed. It was cancerous, and so are the others. I've been receiving Chemo since June '18, and I'm still in treatment.

Hi Bern:  My eye leaked b/c I couldn't capture my tears due to paralysis - I'm guessing this isn't the case for you ? ...  Maybe it's some nerve involvement ?
I'd ask the doc about it,  hopefully it won't last.

Doc:  the leaking may be fluid from the swelling of your lids post surgery - that happened to me.  As the swelling goes down it should stop.

Always good thoughts,  Nancy

Hi Bern, I checked your history and you don't seem to have any other facial issues, is that right?

Perhaps your radiation surgery affected your optic nerve in some way. Have you checked with your doctors about this symptom?

I think that tear production is controlled by the facial nerve. Also, corneal sensation that is controlled by the trigeminal nerve plays a role in regulating the amount of tears. Any of these two nerves could have been slightly irritated by radiation, given these symptoms. However as Sara said, it is puzzling that you don't exhibit any other relevant symptoms. For example do you have any numbness around your eyes or forehead? This would be a trigeminal nerve symptom.

I suffer from allergies and when my nose is runny my eyes become runny too. Could this (or other sinus problems) be a possible explanation?

GK on April 23rd 2008 for 2.9 cm AN at Toronto Western Hospital. Subsequent MRIs showed darkening initially, then growth. Retrosigmoid surgery on April 26th, 2011 with Drs. Akagami and Westerberg at Vancouver General Hospital. Graduallly lost hearing after GK and now SSD but no other issues.
