Migrane nedicine
« on: December 03, 2009, 07:05:07 pm »
Has anyone tried over the counter migrane mediicine?  Sometimes my AN side of my head hurts and that side of my face.  I wonder if like a migrane med. would help.  Since it is     due to nerve damage over the counter  Ibuprofin    doesn't help.  Karen

Karen,

First you need to see a professional to see if you are actually having migraines.  OTC migraine medicine is just Tylenol or Ibuprophen with caffeine in it, so you might as well take a tylenol and have a cup of coffee and save yourself a bunch of money!  Since my headache specialist took me off of all caffeine, I doubt if OTC meds are really good for migraine.  What I take is Imitrex, which is now available generic, called sumatriptan.  It decreases the pain and shortens the duration if I take it when I first have symptoms.  I used to inject it, but now I'm down to just the oral 100 mg ones.

Good Luck and Brainwreck Begone!
