Oh, Anne.  I am so sorry to hear this  :(

I don't know the answer to your question, but I think we have at least a couple of forumites who have/had family members with brain tumors.

Life isn't fair and there's usually no rhyme or reason for that.

Prayers to your brother, you, and the rest of your family.

Please keep us posted.

I don't actually "make" trouble..just kind of attract it, fine tune it, and apply it in new and exciting ways

I'm also very sorry to hear about your brother. I hope they are able to treat it.

I don't know if brain tumors necessarily run in the family, but I'm living proof it can happen. My father had a malignant brain tumor 20 yrs ago that was inoperable. I was obviously scared when I was first diagnosed, but quickly became somewhat relieved that I had a non-cancerous tumor (AN).

Prayers for your brother, you and family. Please keep us posted.

There seems to be a link. We have sisters here who both have AN`s. At 100,000 to 1 each what are those odds? As for me my mom never been checked 85 years old but has the same symptoms as me for many years. Many prayers for you and your family! Best wishes, Mickey

Dear Anne,

I am so sorry to hear about your brother.  I sure am hoping that brain Tumors don't run in families but I am going to insist that both my young adult children have MRI's.   I am the only one in my family that has ever had one that I know of.

Please know that you and your family are in my prayers.

Anne  I am so sorry to hear about your brother, my thoughts and prayers are with him and your family.

My uncle had a brain tumour appparently the size of a tennis ball.  It was not cancerous and it was not an AN like mine.  He had it operated on and he is now ok.  I dont think our tumours were heriditary but I often think how lucky we were as they werent cancerous but how unlucky we were to suffer this terrible infliction.

Anne ~

Like so many others that have already posted to this thread, I'm very sorry to learn of your brother's brain tumor.  Something like this is never 'fair' but then, what medical crisis ever is?  He and his family (including you, of course) will be in my thoughts and prayers.

As for your question, I'm not a doctor but I don't believe that most brain tumors are hereditary, although some are.  Because the majority of brain cancers are not genetic, I wouldn't stress out over the possibility.  However, I would be alert to any future symptoms that might indicate a brain tumor of any kind.  In that case, an MRI scan is your best defense for early detection.

Jim

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Anne,

I am so SO SORRY to hear about your brother's tumor - how is he doing today?
I hope he is resting until he can see the doctors again.

As Mickey said, i am here with my sister - and i know that my sister was hoping my symptoms were not indicative of an AN.
But knowledge is power, and i am glad i know what i am dealing with.

All my thoughts and prayers are with you, and especially your brother during this uncertain time.
Please send updates when you can.

More prayers,
Sue

I hope that your brother has a positive outcome--I know it can be so scary.  My Mom had a brain tumor when she was the same age as when mine was diagnosed.  Her tumor was not an AN, but it was also benign and she recovered well.  My sister has had such horrible tinnitus that once I was diagnosed she convinced her doctor to give her an MRI.  Fortunately, it was clear.  At least we have the knowledge now.  Best to you and your family.
