removal of gold weight
« on: October 22, 2009, 05:58:45 pm »
I haven't contributed in a while , but i just had to share some good news!  i finally (after 9 years) had my gold eyelid weight removed.  the doctor was willing to try it since it had ****ed and protruded over the years.  it caused my eyelid to lower too easily.  i thought it was so ugly!  my eye looks great!  it stays a little open at night, but i sleep with it covered so its ok.  big change!!!  patti

Hi, Patti ~

I just wanted to add my own note of congratulations on the occasion of you having your gold eye weight successfully removed.  This kind of news is very informative and inspirational for AN patients dealing with eye issues.  Thanks for posting.  :)

Jim
4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Hi I also had my eye weight taken out after almost 5 years.  I can blink if I use my cheek a little and think about it.  I use Celluvisc about every hour and a half during the day and Refresh PM at night.  I also don't     have feeling in my face tongue and cornea and no tears.  Do you feel uncomfortable on that side all the time, even though it is numb it feels stiff and like I have been to the dentist.  I still can't get used to that feeling.  Even tried Neurotin and Lyrica.  Karen  P.S. I would like to talk to you sometrime,
Karen

Since i last wrote in october about the removal of my eye weight-it has only gotten better.  my eye does close at night without covering it.  the refresh liquigel dries on my outer eyes and seals it shut.  i look better.  i am feeling almost normal!  karen-send a private message with info about how we can talk.  patti

Wonderful news Patti.  I'm curious,  did you have the same weight in for the 9 years ?  Since I will always need a weight in my eye,  I'm concerned re: protruding out of the eyelid.  I've heard it should be changed every 5 years ?
Always good thoughts,  Nancy

nancy-yes, i have had it in for 9 years and only this year did the doctor agree that it was protruding and even shifted.  he said there was no guarantee that removing it would work but he gave me the option.  all is well.  patti
