Last night, after I attempted to explain a BAHA to my son, the college graduate, he asked, "So Mom, you are getting surround sound put in your head?"  Not exactly.

Actually if you get a BAHA device by Cochlear, it IS possible to get surround sound.

Just purchase their MP3 adapter and it's like having a concert right inside of your head.  It's one of THE coolest things I've experienced with my BAHA. 

You just plug one end of the adapter into your device and the other end into your MP3 player.  Nothing goes into your ear.

Thanks Jan.  That is cool news.  They are scheduling my surgery.  Looks like I may have to go out of town to get this done with just a local, but that is OK.  Susan

Having the implant done with general anesthesia isn't a big deal from what I've heard.  Lots of doc do it that way. 

Although most of my doc's patients pick local, he also does general.

Jan, Had a little trouble following my last general anesthesia (my one and only seizure), so I prefer a local.  Also, I think that the down time would be less.  Since I am finally back at work after an extended absence, down time is a small factor.  Thanks for your input.

Definitely go with the local then.  It makes the whole experience a little surreal, but not disturbing in the least.  I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

And the "down time" is definitely eliminated.  I could have literally hopped off the table and walked out of the OR after the procedure, if they would have let me.
