My GK story
« on: January 07, 2011, 08:53:29 am »
Hallo, this is my STORY with AN.

My tumor ( AN ) was diagnosed in 2001 - 10 x 6 mm. I consulted first with Dr. Leonetti (LUHS - Chicago ) but I decided against surgery, because I was afraid ( I misunderstood the procedure ). I decided watch and Wait option. In 11/05 I had MRI and AN was 25 x20x19 mm.
In 01/06 I had GK - ART 6000. In the clinic where I had the GK, few doctors saw my mainly. My RN Surgeron with Nurse gave me pills, screw frame to my head, did CT. So far this routine was similar with other people who had this procedure ( about 1,5 h ).
With this frame on my head I was waiting for the Surgeon about 7 hours for his treatment plan! I was told that he took 2 times, so he could do better treatment.
Next I was screwed to the table and moved under GK. Surgeon and Nurse walked out of the treatment room. After few min they come back to GK , pulled out bed from under GK and with wrench unscrewed and screwed some frame ( they could change position for Radiation ?)
I had 53 Radiation of GK and each time they manually made change the second ? frame. Single Radiation pasted ~ 2.5 - 4.5 minuets.
2 - 3 times they had to give me pain medications ( sitting position ). I also 2 times go to the Bathroom had vomiting and ... Screw my to the bed after movement. Whole procedure lasted 6 hours!    Uff...
 :( :'(

Sorry for my English !

Janusz ~

Welcome to the ANA website discussion forums.  We're glad you found us, registered and posted.  No need to apologize, your English is fine.

Your 2006 CyberKnife procedure seems to have been a bit unpleasant but I trust that it was effective.  I didn't undergo CK but many of our members have and I'm sure they'll be responding to you, soon.

Jim
4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Hi Jim,

My radiation was one day. I think  it was GK. I never read if patient moved from GK in procedure time. Em I right?
