Numb Skull
« on: December 15, 2010, 08:25:51 pm »
Guess this is where the term came from. Finally noticed today that my skull is fairly numb above my ear and all along the incision area.  Did everyone have this, post surgery?  My son said it will last up to a year, that the peripheral nerves are very slow to grow back (kind of like ANs, I guess).  Makes sleeping weird.
Age: 61 on Jan. 4.  Retrosigmoid for 2.2 cm AN on Nov. 30, 2010. Loyola-Leonetti & Anderson.
SSD left AN side.
There is nothing "benign" about this tumor.

I still have some residual numbness around my AN scar, but I have more numbness around my Baha implant. It's strange, but at least it's not painful!

I've actually had the opposite result. My skull in that area has always been much more sensitive, no numbness I can recall since coming home.

A numb skull is common post op.

I remember that my skull was numb for quite a while, but I don't know exactly when the numbness went away.

I know it was still numb 9 months post op when I had my BAHA implant because I was awake and didn't feel the doc injecting the lidocaine into my skull.

I don't actually "make" trouble..just kind of attract it, fine tune it, and apply it in new and exciting ways

My skull was numb along the incision site for a while. How long a while? I don't remember. It wasn't anything that was bothersome.

HI, I can tell you after four surgeries to my noggen, that numb skull is quite normal. A dermatologist friend of mine, explained it to me. The scalp has thousands of little nerves running through it. Without going into the detail of the surgery :P, the surgery technique isn't very kind to the scalp. So it takes a little while for all of those nerves to relax and heal, numbness and tingling sensations are part of that process, I wouldn't be too concerned about it, but always be viligent in what your body is telling you. Good Luck to you.

I am also a numb skull (Guess I probably always was!).  The area is getting smaller but it is still there 11 months post op.  I rarely notice it anymore, it is just the way I am.

I'm 9 months post surgery and still a numb skull, makes lying on that side uncomfortable.  Being six months pregnant too has made getting comfortable a bit of a mission!

Hi!
I'm still a numb skull at 11 and a half months post op.   Even numb down my neck.   The area doesn't seem to be getting smaller, nor is the intensity.  I read on the internet that this is caused by the Occipital Nerve.   Correct me if I'm wrong.   It's very very ULTRA sensitive and hurts when you press on certain areas!
