Update - Newbie in New York
« on: January 20, 2011, 01:09:43 pm »

After much research and thought, my husband Len has finally made his big decision.

Since his diagnosis last October, the ANA and it's forum have been very informative, interesting and honest.  We've relied on it heavily.  So many of you have been a wonderful source of support!  Many, many thanks!!

Although we highly respected all the surgeons we've consulted including HEI, he's made his decision to have his surgery performed by the surgeons Dr. Golfinos and Dr. Roland at New York University, Langone Medical Center in Manhattan, New York.  They are performing the translab. method on him.

His surgery is scheduled for January 26th.  Of course, he's very nervous.  We would greatly appreciate any prayers and positive thoughts.

Thank you  :)

MaryEllen .....

Thanks for letting us know about Len's upcoming surgery.  I am sure you feel a relief, just having a treatment plan.  Drs. Golfinos and Roland have excellent reputations so he is in good hands.

Many thoughts and prayers for successful surgery and recovery for Len ..... and for strength and calm for you as the caregiver.

MaryEllen ~

Thanks for the update.  I believe you and your husband have made a good decision.  Of course my thoughts and prayers will be with you and your husband as he approaches his Big Day.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

I'm glad your husband has decided on a doctor.  It was such a relief when I finally made a decision.  Good luck to you both.  I will be thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers.  Sandy

Tomorrow is your husband's big day; sending him lots of good thoughts and well wishes.

Please let us know how things go for him.

Also, don't forget to take good care of yourself.  Surgery is often harder on the loved ones than it is on the patient.

The day of my surgery I think my parents had a tougher time than I did.  Very stressful for them; while I slept through it.

MaryEllen,

Quite a few forumites have had Drs. Golfinos and Roland as their surgeons and love them.  Your husband will be in good hands.

Hey...that's a HUGE step in this whole process...the decision. I know I felt a big weight lifted when I made my decision and I am sure your hubby has too...of course that gets offset by the upcoming surgery...but with the support of you and many prayers going your way, you all will get through it just fine!  Good luck and thanks for the update!
