Anyone have symptoms on non AN side ??
« on: August 14, 2006, 06:35:09 am »
I have achy ear, tinnitus and head pain on my AN side, although lately ive
been having ear ache on my non AN side and sometimes it sounds like i have tinnitus, but usualy only when im surrounded by a lot of noise. Im also having head pain on my non AN side.
Im afraid because my MRI said" no evidence of significant abnormality on the left 7th and 8th nerve"
What does that mean ? Is the radioligist just being careful, Im thinking that there might be something there and it was still too small to mention ???
I have a lot of anxiety about this AN thing, sometimes i think thats what causing these extra symptoms.
Has anyone had symptoms on there non AN side and not had an AN growing there ?
I hate this, my next MRI is in January...I dont even know if I should bother calling my doctor or not at this point.

T,
Always ere on the side of caustion.  I would call my ENT.  I had a driving pain from my AN side and feelings of fullness after the surgery.  I was diagnosed with TMJ.  I have a night guard for my mouth (husband loves it) I can't talk in my sleep anymore and the pain is almost gone.  Good luck.

Its understandable you are worried - one contributor to the list had to face
cancer one time, and now later  an AN - she said she thought the cancer
was easier to handle (?)
Clearly worry is a factor.
Its worth to mention that the "perception" of where noise comes from,
real - or tinnitus type noise, is much harder or less accurate
once an AN is involved - many on this list are deaf one side
- but still percieve noise - ringing sounds usually,  from that side
(even though its technically impossible to "hear").
Its real enough for sure. Maybe call it interference ?
Anyway you are now on regular MRI `s as part of regular check ups
- you might in future order an extra copy of your scans
(So you can get a second opinion from elsewhere)
This may help put your mind at rest
Best regards
Tony

thanks tony, ive noticed that you always take time to answer me and actually everyone else here.
You seem to be a very compassionate person.
Yes, im a wreck, so much that i cant seem to sort out whats being caused by my health anxiety or my AN.... all the symptoms seem to get a lot worse after the confirmation of the diagnosis and of course when im feeling stressed.
I mentioned to my neurotologist (sp) that i have an ache on the non AN side, he told me it could be that my ear is compensating, that didnt really make sense to me but hes supposed to be the best in my area.Maybe i will give him a call just to put my mind at ease.
Brendalu, what is TMJ ?? Ive heard of it many times but im not quite sure what it is. Im glad to hear that your ear is doing better and you have an understanding of whats going on. Tks for answering, much appreciated.

Sorry - I didnt mean to say you were a wreck exactly
However, you are, I think "watch and wait", for a while, at least.
This can be nerve-racking to say the least - others here
would say the same I think.
You need to get your mind-set right here or you
may worry yourself sicker than you actually are.
Focus on "Getting Well",  your recovery, what and how
you are going to do it.
Best Regards
