Earache

Just wondering how many of you actually experienced an ache in their AN ear. I get this achy feeling once and a while during the day, it lasts only a few seconds each time. Now that i think back i can actually remember a few times over the past few years in which when i was sleeping with my ear against my pillow i would wake up to an ache in my ear, i cant remember now which ear it was but as soon as i changed position it would go away....I wonder if it has been the AN.

I occasionally get a sharp pain or ache deep inside on my AN side.  It usually lasts 5-15 seconds.  But based on my MRIs, it's clear that my AN has pushed around the bony structures in there and has significantly increased the size of my IAC.  Not surprising, I guess, that I get pains now and then!  I was diagnosed last summer, but only put the pains together with the AN a few months ago - d'oh!

I hope it's not too bad for you.  I can definitely live with my pains, though here's hoping they stop (or at least decrease) post-surgery!

I get this alot 2-3 times a week and if I lay on my side and prop my head up on the AN side ith my hand after a few minutes if I get up the whole side feels as if my skull has shifted and if hurts like crazy for about 5 minutes

Ever since surgery in April 2003 sensitivity and also pain deep in AN ear.  MRIs show nothing remarkable except a fluid sac, supposedly normal post operative finding.

In the 5 years most recent before the discovery of my An, I had deep ear pain on the AN side.  My doctor would prescribe antibiotics for what he thought was ear infection.  I'd take the antibiotic, use a strong decongestant and the pain would go away.  Once in a while I'd just get a seering pain in there and then it would cease.  This pain would make me wince and touch my jaw.  I live in Texas where allergies are supposed to be a great industry for specialists and clinicians.  Lots of little kids and adults get ear tubes put in.

I too have the earache which the doctor claims is not from the AN; however, there are enough people on this form that have similar symtoms to make me think it is at the least  secondary to the tumor.  Maybe the head, ear, neck issues are related to us adjusting how we move due to the imbalance, setting our jaw (as in grit your teeth and deal with it!).  I am exploring treatment ror the different symtoms as I "watch and wait" which I am hoping will lead me to either a treatment choice or resolution of the various symtoms.  I seem to have many of the symtoms pretreatment that many on the forum have post treatment; therefore, not rushing to get treatment!!!

Hope this might help you to explore options for symtom treatment.

From what I learned, earaches are usually caused by eustacian tube dysfunction. That's how I found my neuroma, I had an earache for like a month straight. Lots of things can cause ETD and tumors are among them. So technically the doctors are right I guess, it's not pain directly from the tumor, but it's still the cause.....

No earaches, no headaches before or after - really. Strange, I know. These things effect us all differently.

Hi Tatianne!

  I've had the pains both sides on and off for years. It has been investigated. Of course there is much tissue alteration during a surgery or irradiation.
  The Dr's notes contain the wording, "Ear/head pains of short duration, exact etiology unknown."
