Severe Numbness in hands
« on: March 07, 2013, 11:36:04 pm »
Dear Fellow Forum Pals,

I have undergone AN total excision in year 2005 but have started having some numbness in my hands in the recent years.
Just a few months ago, i noticed the numbness in both my hands got worse. The numbness came along with pain too, especially middle of the night. This numbness caused weakness in my hands & affects my daily activities too ( eg: eating, using the computer etc )
Has anyone experienced the same?  Could this be related the AN?

Im seeing an orthopaedic specialist now as well as a neurologist to identify the problem with my numbness.
Hopefully this has nothing to do with my past AN.

Thanks.

Those symptoms are more likely to be due to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Explore that possibility with your doctors.

You can google it for more information and google images would have pictures and diagrams about the condition.

Shanne:

The mind and body are more complex than even doctor's learn about.  Isolating each incident which occurs really is difficult to pursue in the data bin.

I've got three bulging discs of the neck so if and when my hand or arm are numb I must decide if it's the "real serious problem."  (go to emergency or not---I live way up in the redwoods and not near any hospital)

Of course other problems you might have could cause your numbness although, I'd seek answers ASAP and make your own intelligent decision.

Do Internet searches, doctor/questions answers online---via the link and yes, your problem could be from too much texting/typing.  It doesn't sound too much like it's AN-related.

An electromyelogram (EMG) is often helpful in determining the potential location of nerve impingement that causes numbness.
