Tarsorrhaphy - diplopia
« on: August 02, 2012, 01:50:25 pm »
After having my acoustic neuroma operation 15 months ago I was left with facial palsy and was unable to close or blink my right eye, I had botox injected into my eyelid to keep the eye closed but it still opened after three months and  I could still not blink.  I then had tarsorrhaphy to partly close my eye and it has been like this for a year and I am now waiting to have it opened.  What my question is is has anyone had the same procedure and their eye drop (diplopia) I have been told I will have to have a further operation to stitch the muscles back in place but I haven't heard of anyone having the same thing happen after tarsorrhaphy?

I also tried  the botox. then hadmy eye sewn shut    after they opened my eye I had double vision up and across.  I ended up having 3 eye muscle surgeries   .I don;t havefeeling in my eye so the operations were nothing compared to the AN surgery!!!   letme know if you have any questions

Hi Karen thanks so much for your reply, I've been reading comments on here but couldn't find anyone whose eye had actually dropped.  I'm having my eye  opened next Wednesday. When you had your eye opened did they just cut it and if so how did you stop the eyelids joining together again, and how long after having your eye opened was it before they operated on your eye and why three eye operations.  Sorry so many questions.  Pam

They just cut the sutures I think  when they opened iy is when we found out about the double vision  My eye was turned in and down alittle.  we waited several months to  see if itstraighned out by itself, then i had the first eye muscle surgery.  I had 3 surgeries because my doublevision was down and across.  I have prizms in my glasses and the double vision isgone with my glasseson   if you have any more qustions you can call me if you want

Thanks for your reply.  My eyelids have been fused together so I don't have any stitches and it has been like this for over a year that is why I was worrying.  Are you in the UK

Yes it will probably be too expensive.  I have it done Wednesday and have a busy weekend ahead so no time to worry about it.

Hi Karen well I've had my eye opened and my eye has dropped down and see another eye surgeon on Tuesday to see what are going to do.  I have been told my eye could go back on it's own or they could try eye exercises before surgery.  Do you know what the exercises are?
