Is anyone from Virginia
« on: August 20, 2006, 04:54:58 pm »
I'm in the Roanoke area and wanted to know if there was anyone nearby? If so, I'd love to know which doctor's you have seen. My ENT is referring me to MCV in Richmond. It seems strange to have to travel 3 hours.

Hi Iparr!
I am from Roanoke but live in Kansas now.  My husband had his AN removed in LA.  If you don't feel comfortable with someone local, please go where the best doctors are.  I am sorry I don't know the doctors in the Roanoke area, it has been a while since I have been home.  Good Luck, I hope you will stick with this site it is a great place for info and encouragement.  KenJen

Thank you GM! I love VA. While growing up my father was in the Navy so we traveled A LOT and finally he retired when I was 16 - I have a home now.

KenJen - Thank you! Why so far from home? It sounds like you travel a bit yourself.

Hello!  I'm in Northern Virginia and when I asked my doctor for recommendations for surgeons/hospitals on the East Cost, he recommended Hopkins and UVA.

I travelled 4000 miles to have my AN treated!  There are a limited # of AN specialists in the country--not something you want to have done at your local hospital if you can help it!

I got extreemly lucky in that after 2 months of researching, and almost going to the House Institute in California. I found a top surgeon in the field that was at House for many years right here in my own backyard. Only 20 miles away, even covered by my insurance. See, God does look after us.  But as I said, I was extreemly lucky to find my doc so close. You need to research it andas Deb said,  go as far as you need to go to get the best care. This is your life your talking about.
Good Luck
