I have tried it twice. Burns so bad I can't use it, makes my eye worse. I have even tried keeping it in the refrigerator before use and it didn't help. It must not burn for everyone, but for me it didn't work.

I asked the cornea specialist about Restasis recently. She explained to me that Restasis is good for people who have lack of tears attributed to inflammatory issues (such as Sjogren's syndrome). She said that it is not appropriate for people who experience dry eye due to nerve damage, and she wouldn't prescribe it for me.
I had posted a question on Restasis on the forum long time ago, and based on the answers indeed most ANers have not seen a beneficial effect, and some had adverse reactions. So it seems that we are pretty much stuck with the OTC drops.

I have found GenTeal lubricant gel for severe dry eye works the best for me at night but I'd love to hear what other's are finding helpful.

I had a lot of luck with a new product by Refresh called Optive advanced.  It's supposed to keep them wet longer, and it seems to work.  What I usually do is team it up with a gel drop and it makes my eye feel slick and wet longer - the gel drops tend to make it feel a bit gooey.... I found that I could get it cheaper online than in the drugstore.  It's horribly expensive!  I actually re-use (probably not supposed to) the tiny bottles of it that I tried from the drug store - refilling them with the larger bottle bought online so I can keep them all over the house.  Using clean hands and being careful I haven't had any contamination problems.

My opthomologist said that he didn't think it would help in my situation,  but we tried it for months.  It did not help me.

I'm happy that people have had good results with Refresh Tears. I've been using it for almost a year now and I use a lot of it.

Fortunately, I can get a multi-bottle package (2.17 oz) from Sam's Club for about $20 including tax.

Seems to last me about 3 months.
