Second MRI
« on: August 27, 2006, 07:57:12 pm »
I had my first MRI in June at the hospital. My neurosurgeon wants me to have a second one in October to check for growth. The thing is, he wants me to have it in the office where his practice is. Although this would be much more convienent for me, I worry that the results would be different since it would be done on a different machine.  I've read that even with the same instrument, results can vary due to the position of the head not being exactly the same both times. Should I ask him if I can have the second at the hospital again?

I've had three of them...all on different machines.  The doctor doesn't seemed to concerned about it and I wouldn't think it would make that much difference.  But that's just my opinion..

I don't think it would make that much of a difference either, but if it makes you more comfortable. Go back to where your first one was done. You're in control.

Hi Seffra:

My surgeon ordered a second MRI also.  The first one was ordered by the ENT that diagnosed me.  They were at different places.  I never asked why, just assumed the surgeon wanted the radiologist he is familiar with to read the films.  I do know for a fact that MD's do have "favorite" radiologists and pathologists.

Best of luck to you!!  Kathy
