Resound Verso
« on: May 31, 2013, 05:15:53 pm »
Hi to all,
I just had a hearing aid eval and Resound Verso for both ears was recommended for moderate hearing loss.  Needless to say, I'll be researching this for a few months and possibly get a second opinion simply because they are soooo expensive.  Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sandra

Check out Phonak hearing aids. Less costly and probably do the same thing.

Thank you so much for the advice.  Needless to say, I feel like I'm back on the research trail again similar to the year prior to treatment.  It will take me awhile to make this decision.  I looked at Phonak's website and it's extremely informative.
Thanks again!

You might also check out Sam's Club and Costco for hearing aid deals.

You can go on their websites and loot at all the hearing aids that are available.

Under each item there are generally reviews written by customers that have bought and used them.

Hi Sandra;

I think it's important to remember that two equivalent HAs of different brands, but set to the same audiogram, will not sound equally well to you.
Also; Clinics and Auds do seem to have their favorites. Part of that may be an economic relationship with the company.
I've had several Phonaks which I more or less found useful. Unitron ( made by Phonak ) is a cheaper alternative, but with good sound, comparable to Phonak. They use the same software for adjusting.
If Resound suits your liking and you can pay for it, by all means use Resound.
I've heard good things about Widex.
I'm leery of Miracle Ear, and had a poor experience with a top of the line, Starkey.
A rule of thumb: Keep it simple with a directional mic and omnidirectional mic. You may want a telecoil switch and at least a couple available memories. Also, a telephone position switch if you use the tele. that side.
If you have low income, maybe check into company programs as Starkey's, "Hear Now". Audabel is identical.
   Best wishes!

Just be sure to realize, cheap is not always good.  You can certainly find cheaper hearing aids but usually they do not have the same quality as a higher price one.  The internal electronics do not work in the same way and hearing may be distorted.

I went the cheap route, they were in the shop 6 times in 3 years.  I now have a better quality hearing aid, so the old saying "you get what you pay for" really says it all.

Thank you all so much for that advice.  Needless to say, our insurance doesn't cover this so I've got to wait awhile which will give me plenty of time to research this more thoroughly.  I've been going to the same audiologist for 5 yrs now.  I do understand that whatever the newest, supposedly best item on the market may be preferred and let's face it...possibly lend to a bigger profit margin for the provider.  It takes me forever to make a decision especially when it involves a large sum of $.  Thanks again for all your help.

Sandra, you might want to check into CareCredit, which offers 6, 12, & 18 months to pay interest free.  Ask your audiologist or go to their website to find a provider who works with them:  http://www.carecredit.com/
3/25/13- dx 18x11x14 mm AN, hearing loss in right ear x 5+ years, 5 sessions of CK completed May 2013, now a "post toastie".  Follow up MRI 4/14/14 - 15x19x11 mm. Stable with some signs of necrosis.
 Yippee!
