What the Titanium mesh is made of
« on: June 28, 2013, 05:34:58 pm »
Dear All,
My doctor told me on Wednesday that technically the medical grade mesh is made of
"Nitinol" discovered in the 1950s by the Naval Ordinance Lab.   She got the information of its components from me because I had the information from tracking down the Stryker supplier in China and bat them over the head until they told me what was in it.   I needed this information to plan on what to do next in my life because I am having such a hard time recovering.
Here is the google link.   If you're like me, you'll enjoy the read:

There is a blood test to determine if you are allergic to the mesh but right now it is only available in Denver National Jewish Allergy and Asthma Hospital with Dr. Pacheco

Hugs to you all!

It says here on ASM International that Titanium is biocompatible.   Don't believe everything you read.  We treat each human as an individual.   We are all zebras of different stripes

A growing use of titanium is in medical applications. Titanium is biocompatible with the human body (nontoxic and not rejected by the body). It is used for surgical implements and implants such as hip balls and sockets and heart valves. The lower elastic modulus of titanium more closely matches the properties of human bone than do stainless steel alloys, which results in less bone degradation over long periods of time. Titanium is also used for dental implants to replace missing teeth.

Hi

And like for metal plates for covering large skull wounds, or open areas. So is titanium.
