mri done
« on: July 16, 2013, 09:27:07 am »
hi everyone. I had my mri done. it was really not a big deal. the tech let me see some of the images and he said he didn't see anything typical of what they were looking for. i did see a small bright white dot in the ear canal on the "bad side" and i asked him if that was something but he didn't answer and just flipped past it. It was about the size of a pencil eraser, so if I have one it is small. I have to wait 5 days for the report.

thanks for the reply...it looked most like the middle link but was brighter and about half that size. my husband was at the screen the entire mri and said he saw many thinks only on the bad ear side but the tech said they were blood vessels. Could there be anything else beside AN that causes unilateral hearing loss (40 db), tinnitus and imbalance (like a floating feeling at times). The tinnitus is so exhausting. I also have an intolerance to certain sounds on that side. Not sure if that is an AN symptom.

That middle link is kinda what mine looks like on my MRIs. It was 9mm x 3mm x 4 mm when I was diagnosed in April 2012 and grew to 12mm x 4mm x 4mm by October 2012.

The more you read on this forum the more you'll see that AN symptoms are all over the map.

I had tinnitus (very minor - now pretty much gone), balance issues (have had some improvement) and complete loss of hearing on my AN side but no pain or fullness like others have described.

Even a small AN could result in your symptoms.

I'm no doctor so I don't want to say for sure that you have one. But, given the symptoms and what you've seen on your MRI, I think we'll be welcoming you to the club that nobody wants to be a member of. ::)

When you get the report, let us know.

Thank you. I hate waiting but maybe that's a good sign, though they did say it would be a few days. Yesterday I had a dizzy spell I haven't had in a while. Was bending over to tie my shoe and got very dizzy. It's not vertigo though. When the dizziness comes the tinnitus increases to a whole new level. Whatever this is, it is strange. I just want a diagnosis so I can move forward. I read your link about your treatment and if i do have an AN hope to go the same route.

sooo frustrated. I still don't have my results. My doctor referred me to a head and neck surgeon but he's out of the office til Monday. Do you think no news is good news? I know, impossible to know. Is a head and neck surgeon the same as an ENT?

If there was a problem, your doctor would very likely be calling you asap.  Mine did, at 7:00 P.M., from his cell phone when the MRI scan report found a large AN.  Usually, 'no news is good news'.

Otolaryngologists (head & neck surgeons) are commonly referred to as ENT (ear, nose & throat) physicians.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

got my mri results. The GOOD news is I don't have an AN. The BAD news is the doc thinks I have SCD and need a temporal bone CT scan. treatment is similar in that they do cranial surgery and move the brain to get to the hole in the bone. Until recently i never heard of any of these diagnosis. I guess there are a lot of things that can go wrong with the body we never hear about.

Hi;
   Wow, SCD is rare! Best wishes in your outcome. I think outcomes are generally pretty good if one has a good surgeon.

For those of us that are acronymically challenged there are several medical conditions abbreviated SCD but, in this context, I'm guessing Superior Canal Dehiscence.
