Question
« on: September 26, 2013, 11:12:05 pm »
I saw an audiologist today. My hearing in my  "good" ear was down from 2 years ago. She asked me if my MRI's are full skull or just AN side?  I have no clue, but now she has me worried that I may have an AN on the other side!!!  Does anyone know if when they do an MRI if it is usually full skull?  She tried to reassure me that  I was probably fine....now I am worried!!!  Thanks!
4mm x 8mm right side AN found 10/30/11
imbalance, ringing and fullness in ear

I believe that all MRI head scans are 'full skull'.  To be certain - and alleviate your stress - contact the doctor's office that authorized your last MRI scan and inquire if it was ordered for 'full skull'.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

My neurologist has always sat down with us and reviewed my MRI's, they seem to be the full skull, I can see both sides of my head in the MRI's.  I think my husband has learned to read them better than the docs :)
4/2011 diagnosed with 3 cm AN on right side
6/15/2011 retrosigmoid craniotomy which resulted in SSD, severe facial paralysis
7/2011 gold weight placed right eye lid
5/2012 tarsorrpapny right eye
6/2012 woke up with a smile
1/2013 cranioplasty because a screw came out of my head!

I can't imagine an MRI not being "full skull."

I suggest you get your MRIs on a CD so you can see for yourself.

And since your CK was over a year and a half ago you should have had a couple of follow up MRIs by now to monitor the demise of your AN.

If you haven't I suggest getting one so you can see for yourself what a dying AN looks like compared to the live one in your MRI that resulted in the diagnosis.

In case you are curious the following is a series of MRIs of a small AN taken over a 36 month period after radiation:

9/21/16 12mm x 7mm x 5mm
3/23/15 12mm x 5.5mm x 4mm
3/13/14 12mm x 6mm x 4mm
8/1/13 14mm x 5mm x 4mm (Expected)
1/22/13 12mm x 3mm (Gamma Knife)
10/10/12 11mm x 4mm x 5mm
4/4/12 9mm x 4mm x 3mm (Diagnosis)

Thanks all,  I will get copies of my MRI.  I was treated in San Diego and live in Alaska, so follow up with the dr are over the phone so I don't see the MRI's. Everything is word of mouth.   thanks!  I liked seeing the photos of the MRI.  Thanks and now I know what to look for!  Hugs to you all!!!
