dumb question..dental work and Gamma Knife.
« on: September 13, 2006, 11:05:44 am »
I am just starting to explore GK for my AN that is now 1.7cm.   My Dr. said after 2 years of "watch and wait" its time to make a decision. I have a metal bridge in my mouth on the same side as the AN.  I want to go for the GK but have been reading about facial numbness etc. and it just occurred to me that the metal bridge might be some sort of a problem.  Has anyone had the GK with a metal dental work?

I appreciate all your help.  I am just beginning this research and anticipate lots of dumb questions will arise.  Please bare with me.

This is a good question for your GK treatment team.  My guess is that they'll ask you to remove the bridge for the time you're in the GK machine for treatment.

Joef,
The metal did not interfere with the MRI, but I am wondering about radiation "rays" and heat and bounce and other odd things that might happen to metal in your mouth.
I called and made an appointment with my Neuro-surgeon to discuss the GK. The appointment is October 2.  I need to get a list going, I can see that now.

Sue,

You could try posting your question on the cyberknife support group website.  I am sure one of the doctors will answer.
