Any new info on estrogen-AN connection?
« on: February 21, 2014, 11:14:35 am »
I know there was some discussion of  this possible connection a while back, but am wondering if anyone knows of any recent research in this area? the last study I saw was in 2006 & showed no connection...I have had increased dizziness for a week now after one dose of topical estrogen...

Here is some info from 2010
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20091865

There seems to be a small association between HRT and ANs
However other factors such as the increased use of MRI, or the fact people on HRT are probably more medically aware, and therefore seek help sooner could explain the association.

Some funky stuff happens to many after radiation.
Normally these things are annoying not debilitating and they do eventually pass.
At 4.5 months my dizziness and generally vague feeling got worse but at 5.5 months I felt better than pre treatment. So hang in there...
Many people seem to find around 5 months gives them the most issues and they ever so slowly ease up from there.

10x5x5mm AN
Sudden Partial hearing loss 5/28/10
Diagnosed 7/4/10
CK 7/27/10
2/21/11 Swelling 13x6x7mm
10/16/11 Hearing returned, balance improved. Feel totally back to normal most days
3/1/12 Sudden Hearing loss, steroids, hearing back.
9/16/13 Life is just like before my AN. ALL Good!

Hi,
from my own experience it was after taking a course of progesterone, which I reluctantly took for peri menopausal symptoms, that my very dramatic symptoms of vertigo, dizziness and tachycardia appeared. I eventually saw an ENT doc who ordered the MRI which diagnosed the AN. I'd self diagnosed myself by then!

I've read some research that seems to conclude progesterone is linked to growth spurts. Also read stuff about pregnancy causing the same. Maybe the pill too. But other research contradicts.

All I can say in my own case there was a direct correlation which seems more than coincidental.
