Tinnitus and Hearing Aids
« on: April 25, 2014, 11:58:33 am »
Hello, does anyone have Tinnitus and hearing aids? I am looking into getting them as my opposite of AN side has Sudden Hearing Loss Syndrome and I have lost 20% of hearing and have tinnitus in both ears. My hearing on right side is 100% gone from AN surgery and eventually I am told so will the other side :( The hearing aids that my specialist said will work for me is $3,000 for 2 of them and I do not know if they will work with the ringing. Does anyone know? Thanks!

I tried a hearing aid with a "zen" mode for tinnitus and was told it helped only about 20% of patients.  It did not help me and I returned it for a full refund. It was rather expensive.

The tinnitus is constant and drives me mad.  I have tried several things - TNS, acupuncture, hearing aid, supplements and nothing has worked for me.  My ear just rings non-stop like a tea kettle.

I hope you have better luck than me.

Derika,

In my case, a hearing aid helps soothe the tinnitus on my AN side. My hearing post-surgery was at 20% word recognition. So the hearing aid doesn't help with conversations. I just keep it in outdoor mode all the time so I don't hear all the distortion that I get with the indoor/conversation mode.

Works for me.

I was afraid of it not working well because of the ringing constantly in both ears. I am going to see on getting help buying the 2 hearing aids this week. I can not afford them as they are $3,000, yes pricey! I can hear however the background noise is what keeps me from being able to understand what is being said. Not sure a hearing aid will help. If the ringing would just stop I think I would have better results. My 40th bday this week and I am not liking having to wear hearing aids already. Blah!

Thanks for your input... :)

Happy Birthday Erika!!

At age 59 I didn't want to consider hearing aids either!  I have to tell you though, I've had mine a month now and can't believe how silly I was to hold off getting them.  Other than the cost (yes they are expensive), the quality of life improvement I've gotten with them is completely overriding my concern about having to wear them.  Mine are so small, know one can tell I'm wearing them.  I have mild tinnitus and am coping quite well.

I hope they work for you!

Thanks for the birthday wishes and for the info. :) I asked the dr and they say it will help some (maybe) but if anything it would make it not as loud with the ringing. I have it now in both ears! It is a life changing thing...before all this I could here perfectly until last Aug surgery for AN but even after that I had great hearing out of left side Non AN... until feb :( Difficult but trying to be positive about it as hard as it is. Thanks again!! :)
