Scary headaches after GK....I'm nervous
« on: August 20, 2014, 08:03:41 am »
Hi AN'ers!
I post this as an official "postie toastie" now that I am experiencing excruciating headaches only one week post GK.  Not sure if this is normal.  I'm also nauseous and have that full head feeling, although I had this pre-GK.  The headaches are so strong it awakes me from sleeping at night....disturbing since I've slept so good being SSD since surgery 5 years ago.  Tylenol didn't even help last night.  Ice seems to help.  Sent email to Dr. Lunsford to see if this is to be expected.  I'm scared since I have a trip planned to NY this weekend with friends (a trip I had planned before I even know of AN regrowth :( ).  As of a few days ago, I thought I'd be ok to go, but now not sure.  Anyone else have similar headaches/side effects from GK.  Help.
Retrosigmoid 8/27/09 undiagnosed and suddenly; no symptoms prior; approx. 4cmx2cmx2cm; right-side, facial paralysis/weakness, SSD and tinnitus. Baha surgery 11/9/10.
Gamma Knife 8/11/14 at UPMC w/Dr. Lunsford after regrowth detected June 2014

Headaches after gk do happen..
Yours sound a little different...
Excruciating headaches. Can be caused by hydrocephalus.
This can be a complication from radiation or surgery..
My personal, non medical opinion is that you need to get this checked ASAP.

10x5x5mm AN
Sudden Partial hearing loss 5/28/10
Diagnosed 7/4/10
CK 7/27/10
2/21/11 Swelling 13x6x7mm
10/16/11 Hearing returned, balance improved. Feel totally back to normal most days
3/1/12 Sudden Hearing loss, steroids, hearing back.
9/16/13 Life is just like before my AN. ALL Good!

I had really bad headaches for a VERY long time after my GK treatment. I still have some issues to this day, though not anything to compare with the initial problem. You might want to consider taking a round of steriods. I had to take them off and on for a little over two years. My headaches always went away when I was on the Medrol Dosepak. Dr. Lunsford can call in a RX for you at your local pharmacy. For me personally, Advil and over the counter meds did not help enough at times. They would only take the edge off of it really. Now, my headaches are controlled by Advil, thankfully. Let us know how you are doing.
