I appreciate your concern about follow-up treatment if any problem occurs. Because ANs are relatively rare, many AN patients must travel a distance for treatment by experienced physicians. Whether out of state or not, it naturally is a concern.
If it helps any ..... if you have surgery, most surgeons require their patients to stay in the area for at least 10 days post-op, during which time most issues occur if they are going to (this is also exceedingly rare).
I went out of state for both of my surgeries. The second one, I flew across the country. I asked this very question before I went. The answer was "We do not see many problems occurring past the 10 day mark and if you should happen to, call us and we will refer you to a doctor in your area to see you." I did not have any problems.
Choosing a highly experienced treating physician greatly minimizes the chance of post-op problems.
