Lumbar drain?

For those who've had retrosig surgery did you have a lumbar drain and what was you experience. My neuro guy is saying o will have one and I'm just looking for info.

Husband had one and there is just a pinprick in that spot where it was, we never "saw" it as he had it out before coming out of ICU.  He said it did not bother him so we are guessing they have you numb in that spot.

I had one placed to reduce the risk of CSF leak, which worked! It was not painful at all, just make sure no one adjusts your position in bed (height of bed, sitting up, laying down) without clamping it first. Felt weird when they took it out, but overall, totally not a big deal.
Diagnosed AN on 4/18/16, 3.6x3.4cm
12hr Retrosigmoid surgery 6/24 removed 85%
Second surgery, 6hrs, with Friedman & Schwartz at UCSD 8/7/18 for regrowth 3.3x1.5cm. Small portion left to preserve facial nerve.
8/15/18 CSF leak from incision after suture removal. Sutures replaced.
