Is this a "Hemi-Facial Spasm?"
« on: August 25, 2017, 06:27:12 pm »
I am 4 months post Cyberknife for a 2.0 cm x 1.3 cm right-side acoustic neuroma that was showing growth from previous MRI's. My only pre-treatment symptoms were sudden hearing loss and very mild tinnitus.  I have had no side effects from the CK until the last 3 days during which I have had three episodes that I am wondering if they are hemi-facial spasms that I have seen discussed in the forum.  I will describe what I felt:

In the first episode, I felt a sudden mild tightening of the AN-side facial muscles on the side of my face. Strong enough to be noticeable but not painful.   It lasted about 15-20 seconds and went away quickly. There were no more episodes that day or the next day.

Today, which is two days after the first one, I had another one with the same characteristics except this one also felt like it was trying to pull my right eye closed. It too only lasted 15-20 seconds.

Five hours later this same day, I had another one that was a little stronger and it felt like it was pulling up on the right corner of my mouth. I hurried to a mirror and could see that my face was somewhat distorted with the right side near the corner of my mouth pulled up unnaturally.  The tightening sensation ended about 30 seconds after it started, and then several seconds after that, my face relaxed and returned to looking normal.

Do these sound like hemi-facial spasms?

Sounds like it to me.  I get them, too, but usually only once a day and usually only after exercise.  Each episode lasts less than a minute.
- 9 x 5 x 7 mm tumor
- diagnosed 9/16
- tinnitus, severe single-sided hearing loss, equilibrium problems, semi-facial spasms
- translab surgery Friedman & Schwartz UCSD 9/18
- 100% of tumor removed
