steroid shots to inner ear
« on: November 24, 2017, 12:54:38 pm »
I am 8 months post cyber knife radiation for a small acoustic neuroma in my right ear.  I had additional hearing loss, increased tinnitus, and more balance issues following the radiation, which was expected. A post 3 month MRI showed that the tumor was the same size. At this time, I was also diagnosed with Hydrops because of an equal hearing loss in both ears, unrelated to the tumor. I began a low salt, low caffeine diet and began taking a diuretic. At 6 months I started occasionally experiencing pulsing, very loud tinnitus. At 7 months a repeat MRI showed that the tumor was still the same size. My doctor suggested steroids to help with inflammation.  Because of a miserable reaction to the steroids at the time of radiation, he suggested that I have a steroid injection directly into my inner ear.  This would keep side effects to a minimum, as opposed to a two week oral dosage.  Has anyone else had an inner ear steroid injection?  Did it help?
