My healthy 10-year Anniversary
« on: July 14, 2018, 03:14:46 pm »
It's been a long time since I logged on here... and that's a good thing.  I just wanted to pass along GREAT news.  I just observed my 10-year anniversary from a Middle Fossa approach Acoustic Neuroma surgery.  As part of my post-op I was told to have an MRI screening on my 1-year, 5-year and 10-year anniversaries.  I'm happy to report that my 10-year screening was clean and my doctor (Derald Brackmann from the House Ear Clinic in LA) told me I will require no further MRI screens!!!!

It dawned on me today that I should post this good news here to offer hope to those of you who have received the discouraging news that you have an acoustic neuroma.  It is very scary but there is hope.

I have made a full recovery, retained about 85% of the hearing in my left ear (my AN side) and the slight facial paralysis I endured as a side effect of my surgery has slowly and steadily lessened over the years.  It is now to a point that only those who know me best can even notice it.

Overall I am very happy and thank God for the great work of Dr. Brackmann and his colleagues at the House Clinic.  I highly recommend them for anyone who has been confronted with the news of an AN.  I hope you are able to beat yours as throughly as I have beaten mine!
1.4 cm AN removed 6/26/2008 by Dr. Derald Brackmann (House Clinic) at St. Vincent's Hospital in LA.  10-15% hearing loss in left (AN) ear.  Very slight facial paralysis on left side of face.

Congratulations!

My 7 year from GK is Friday
I will have another MRI in 6 months.
Do you know if it is standard practice to discontinue MRIs after 10 years? Surgery and radiation?

Hello Luttman,

MRI brain screenings were discontinued 24 years after my Acoustic Neuroma surgery in 1992.
Thankfully to my God Yahweh, I never had an Acoustic Neuroma recurrence.
