NYU Neurosurgeon-Jafar Jafar??

I've had a Dr. Jafar J. Jafar at NYU recommended to me for removal of a 3cm growth.  I was impressed after meeting him two weeks ago, and he apparently works with an ENT guy by the name of Darius Kohan, also in New York City.  I can't find much out about Jafar and his record.  Does anyone know of him and if so, do you have any comments?

I can't help you with doctors out east but I wanted to say hi.  I had a 2.5cm AN removed via translab in May of '04.  I am doing well.  If you have any questions, you can write to me anytime.

How are you doing?  Did symptoms of the AN send you to the doctor?

I've recently had a large AN removed by Dr Jafar Jafar at NYU, together with ENT Dr Kohan, also in NYC. I also found Dr Jafar impressive, same for Dr Kohan. They are both well-published specialists in this field. I also went for a second opinion somewhere elose, but decided to go with these doctors. They did an awesome job in the removal of my AN.
Any questions, please let me know, as I have just gone through (and am still going through) the procedures that are involved with an AN at NYU. I'd be happy to share my experiences with you.

My AN was fairly large (about 5 cm). I only had modestly reduced hearing pre surgery. Post surgery, deaf on left side, numbness in left side and quite some headaches every day. Balance is not great. Face is ok, i can smile, close my eye and raise my eyebrows. Eye is dry though but i hope that will improve over time. I also had a csf leak and had very unpleasant experience with spinal tap/drain. I guess that given the size of the AN, I'm a really lucky person given no more permanent effects. The surgeons did an awesome job. I just don't feel very lucky...

Ok did I  miss a post somewhere else?  How long ago was your surgery.  From what you are saying it sounds like very recently?  It does sound like you didn't take an easy path (heck neither did I) but I can say that over time it does get better.  It's just a very very slow process!  At the times I didn't consider myself lucky I would think of those who are less fortunate  than myself and count my blessings.  I know it's hard to do as I've been there!  I had gone to dinner one night w/ my neighbor who kept asking me how I was coping with all I was going through.  I told her the same thing I just told you.  As we were leaving the establishment I passed a guy younger then me (looked to be in his 30's) in a wheelchair with a feeding tube and a caretaker. As I left I asked my friend if she noticed the guy(he would have been hard to miss as he was blocking the door) and said I have the ability to feed myself (ok so I dribble on my shirt), I have the ability to walk in here on my own (ok so I stumble and look drunk) and I have the ability to dress myself.  Therefore, I can count my blessings and know it's rough right now but it could be a heck of a lot worse!  It does get better.

Maarten-  Don't know if you're still active here.  My brother had a 3cm AN removed by Jafar/Kohan a week ago Wednesday at NYU.  He also developed a CS fluid leak and had to go back in yesterday.  Unfortunately, Jafar is away so the resident staff has to care for him.

My aunt was just diagnosed today. Her An is 2cm and her doctor recommended Dr. Jafar Jafar. I too was wondering if he was a good doctor.
Does anyone know if raditation can be applied to a AN 2cm? Thank you. Is that an option? She is 72 and not in good health.
