Eye Patch - is it permanent?

it has now been 48 hours since my mum's operation.  apparently she is wearing a patch on one of her eyes cause she was having double vision.  I had not idea that this could happen.  How long does it take to get back to normal, or will it be permanant?  today i managed to talk to her over the phone and she seemed really well, her spirits are up too which made me so happy to hear her talk so well.  today the nurses were going to help her walk.  she had a slight infection on her hand, apparently they tried to take some blood from her hand before the op, and something had a bad reaction and so she got a rash in her hand after the op.  she is on antibiotics to prevent any high fever.  Other than that, she seems to be recovering well. Fingers crossed that things will remain that way.

I am happy to hear your mom's surgery went well.

I have double vision since my surgery two years ago.  I wear glasses with prisms, however, there is a corrective surgery available.  At the time, I was sick of surgery and didn't go that route I chose the glasses. But now, I am considering having the surgery done.  Your mom should see an eye dr. to find out what her options are.

It is still early and her double vision may go away. However, it looks like Denise and I are one of the few that have had double vision for over a year plus. I met with an eye dr the first week after my AN was removed. I have been treated by him for the last year but he recommended I see an eye specialist surgeon at my year anniversary of my AN surgery to see if they can correct my double vision. I saw Dr. Khuddas (think that is her name) two weeks ago at the Univ of Fla at Shands Hospital and have surgery scheduled this August to correct three muslces that have not healed. Dr. Khuddas gave me prisms for my glasses so I could use both eyes. That made my day! I had been wearing black tape over my glasses for almost a year which was a bummer.

Your Mom's vision may improve so don't give up hope! Make sure her neurosurgeon recommends a good eye Dr to help her thru this time.

As the others have said, the double vision may go away.  It's common immediately after surgery.  Mine took about 5-6 days to completely clear up.

And the bruises up and down both arms from all the IVs!  It's crazy!  My arms looked as colorful as a Christmas tree!  LOL!
