headache pain status
« on: September 25, 2007, 02:05:30 pm »
I'm happy to report that I've been almost headache free for a little over a month.     I went in to see my surgeons and " in tears "  told them I didn't sign up for this post-operative effect.  They assured me that the headaches would go away, but they had no idea how to treat me.   They referred me to a doctor in the Headache Center at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Center.    He prescribed Indomethacin twice a day and he increased the dose of gabapentin I was already taking.   I'm not back to running and I get very tired , but it is worh it to have a good night's sleep without waking up in  pain and pacing the floor.   If I get a headache (which is very infrequent) I'll take an Advil or two, but otherwise I feel almost normal :D

fantastic news, the indocid doesn't work for me an just be careful with that drug. Its a powerful anti inflamatory and will cause ulcers. If you take them for long periods of time, you should look at going on Losec to counteract the acid build up.

Gabapentin (neurontin is the retail name) seems to be the best one around but in heavy doses, it can make you a bit drowsy.

good to see you have the headaches under control.

GOOD FOR YOU MARJORY B!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I found out at the Symposium, and my surgeon told me, they just don't know why some of us get this durned side-effect and some don't.  Things really change for alot of us once we start seeing a headache specialist. They are masters at treating symtoms instead of causes because so little is known about causes of headaches period.

So take note any of those out there who are still suffering--see a headache specialist--you don't need to suffer any longer--there is hope and there is help!!!!!!
