Placed an order for a Transear

Hi All,

Went to a new audiologist, now that I have moved, and talked to her about the Transaear.  My hearing test showed no improvement from my last test in July, basically 0% recognition on the AN side.


She took an impression and ordered one for me to try out. 

I do have a question though.  She used "standard" two part pink and white material for the impression.  Wasn't she supposed to use a special marterial?  Or am I making this up?

Hopefully, this will make communicating with my Co-workers and family easier.

Hi Jim,
Had my impression for the TransEar last week...it was all pink except for the end...looked like bubble gum.  I get mine tomorrow - I will have to drive over 100 miles round trip after school for it.... but it will be worth it .   I'm really hoping it is a 'perfect fit' and I don't have to go back ..... we'll see.

My impression material was a two part material that ended up looking bubble gum pink, but before it was put in she inserted a tiny piece of cotton attached to a string.

I'm really glad you decided to give Transear a try

No, based on their appointment schedule, and input from others, I decided to go to Physician's Hearing services in Santa Cruz as suggested by Transear.

They were very good and seemed very familiar with the Transear.


I will keep everyone posted.

Hi all.  I got my TransEar today.  I have had it in for about 3 hours and it is doing 'ok'.  My hearing aide specialist had never done TransEar before and I don't think he was too excited about it...because I had a lot of vibration noise at first and when he turned it down there wasn't a lot of sound.  Anyway, he programmed it on 2 programs and I have the volume up to about 3.  I plugged my hearing ear and could hear my husband talking to someone one the phone on the TransEar side.  It isn't real  loud but .... I could UNDERSTAND what he was saying   .   It does sound a bit 'tinny' as my dad would say (he has worn hearing aides for many years) but we will see.  My Hearing aide guy turned down the lower base tones...because that is when it seemed that there was the most vibration and vibration noise .   I know that Boppie said it takes a while for the brain to adjust so I will give it time.  My ear does feel a bit sore....(but I put it in and out about 6 times to be sure I could do it correctly before I drove 50 miles home today).  
     I will probably go back next week to have him adjust it if needed.  The frustrating thing is that because we are on the west coast TransEar closed about 2 or 3 p.m. our time so my appointment needs to be earlier in the day next time so my guy can call them for help.  They had just closed when he tried to call them today.
     Anyway,   I am happy and I can't wait to try it out at school tomorrow.

Marg, If your ear is sore keep the wearing time down to a few hours a day until your ear canal toughens up.  Also taking it out and reinserting it several times one day could have made your ear sore.  The vibrations on high setting can make my ear hurt.  So, I keep it below 3 for better sensation.  You must have good bone contact to have such high vibration, that's good.  I was told to stay around 2 and 2½ volume for the first few weeks.  Sore spots can take a few days to heal up.  If vibration sensations continue to be bothersome you might need to have the audiologist do some sanding on the bulb circumference; just a slight bit at a time.  Like hair...once it is cut off, it can't be put back.

The sound will be low but it is there and once you adjust, you will know when you are "On" and when your ear is "Off".
