My "BAHA hat"
« on: March 07, 2008, 08:23:30 pm »
Thought I'd post pictures of my lovely "BAHA hat" now that Phyl has clued me in on how to do that.

If nothing else, Steve will be amused  ;D

PS - if someone can tell me how to make the pictures smaller, I'll gladly edit this post.  As you can tell, I'm not at all computer literate  ;D

I'd say it's more of a beret than a hat!   :D

That's not so bad - a sweat band and some ear muffs would cover that right up!

Merci beaucoup - probably about the only French I remember from school  :D

Got a PM from "Lois" very early this morning telling me how I can reduce the size of the pictures, so I'll have to monkey with that later today.

Gee, not only am I learning about my medical condition through this forum, I'm also becoming computer literate after many, many years.  I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks  ;)

Jan:  How long did you wear your "French" hat?

Catflower -

I was told to wear it for 24 hours post op.  I actually wore it a little bit more, probably about 25 or 26 hours.  Not because I loved the look so much, but because I dozed off and missed the big countdown LOL

Actually I could have worn it longer, it didn't look as bad as I thought it would and it wasn't uncomfortable.  My children weren't too thrilled that I chose to attend my son's volleyball game a few hours post op - I mean what will people say ???? - but my sister (who took me to the hospital) and I decided it wasn't that horrific.  In our defense, we did try to cover it up with various hats, but it just called more attention to it.

It WAS very interesting to look at people's faces as I walked out of the hospital, and at Popeye's when we stopped for lunch, but it cracked us up more than anything.  I figured if they wanted to stare and wonder, let them.  I'm such a rebel at times  ;D

I probably would have had no issue going to work with it on also, but I decided to take the day after surgery off and relax a little - which worked out well; that's when I got the chance to doze which isn't part of my normal routine.  It was heavenly  :)

The doc probably wished I'd worn it much longer, as two days after I removed it, I inadvertently ripped off the lovely pink foam bandage and cap that was under my "hat" and was supposed to stay on for a week.  While I felt terrible that I had to call him before office hours yesterday and he had to squeeze me into his morning schedule to put it back on, sometimes sh*t happens.   Today it's still in place and hopefully it will stay put until Wednesday.

When posting the pics of my "hat", I forgot to say that someone in the OR stuck 2 smiley face stickers on the big white plastic part that covered my left ear.  I should have left them on until the pictures were taken so everyone could get the full effect.  It made the hat even lovelier.  Maybe that's what caused people to stare at me as I walked out of the hospital  ;D

It's not so bad; okay, it's a little bit funny looking; darn, I would have liked to see it with the smiley faces. It looks vaguely like a surgical mask pushed around to the side.

As far as I know, you have to shrink the pictures before you post them to a web site; otherwise, I don't know if there is a way to set something so they display smaller.

Thanks for thinking of me.  ;)
