Contact Lenses? Ever again?
« on: July 30, 2008, 07:46:27 pm »
I've been wearing daily contact lenses for over 20 years.  Suffered wearing them for 2-3 months thinking it was "allergies" when it was AN getting itchy.   Now 5 weeks post surgery and looking forward very much to feeling like ME again.  I don't mind glasses, but I feel prettier and more like ME without them.  Have Neuro update appt. in 2 weeks time.    Do I go to an opthamalogist before this date to get an opinion or wait it out.  Left eye does no tears.  I Lacrilube (gel) every night and just use drops during the day.    Also, anyone gone for Lasik surgery after AN?  Frankly, I'm not too sure I want anyone messing with anything in/on/near my head every again, but I figured this is the forum to find out who knows what!   Thanks for any help..... Being only 5 weeks out, I would wait a bit before going to the eye doctor specifically about contacts.  I'm about 11 weeks out and only recently got clearance from the neurotologist to wear contacts again.  I promptly made an appt with my eye doctor to check out my eyes.  Like you, I had a 3cm AN and pre-surgery rarely wore my glasses (I'd go for days wearing them at a time!!).  I can't speak to having lasik other than I have thought about it too both pre and post.  I'll wait until I get further along before I seriously consider it again.  I'm good wearing my contacts as long as I remember to blink fully (everything isn't back yet and that eye doesn't want to blink fully unless I think about it and I noticed that tear / moisture production is down a little).  Heck, it's better than glasses any day!

I hope this helps!

I got back into my contacts after I got a punctual plug and started using Restasis. I went to a contact lens specialist (who knew there were such docs) and he has me wearing a brand of contacts that hold moisture. My eye still does not tear at all.  And I hear ya saying how you don't feel like you without contacts.

Eye doc told me that I could not have Lasik bc you need a very healthy eye to have it done. I should have it done BEFORE the An surgery I guess.

I saw an eye doc at one week after surgery.
