I had the torn retina in one eye and was warned that in three years the second eye would suffer the same.  (where the black-veil comes down and sure enough a few weeks after the three-year mark, the other eye suffered the same dilemma)  Well, as far as the AN being related to the eye issue---good question.  I think in my lifetime, I'll never know the answer.
