Do You Get Wonky Head if Your Getting Sick?

Haven't had any wonky head since around Thanksgiving when I overdid it. But, the past few days, I've been feeling a bit more than I have in a long time. I feel like I may be getting some sinus issues coming up and that may be the cause? I remember that my vestibular PT said that I might get some balance issues if I got sick.

Does this happen with anyone else?

I bet you it would - I think any type of sinus issue would create a build up of fluid in the inner ear as well.  With one ear comprimised, the other stuffed up - the whole vestibular system needs to work extra hard to make it all seem right.

My worst symptoms were during a cold at Christmas a year ago. I think your whole sinus system is very vulnerable, and even a small cold can produce some significant symptoms.

Right side is weak too. Life is quiet.

Absolutely ! !   I recently had a stomach virus, ended up dehydrated & went to the doctor - my balance was off more than usual too.  The doc said dehydration causes decreased blood flow, so my left vestibular wasn't helping the right side as much.  I didn't know this could happen - what a vicious cycle - I was vomiting so I didn't eat/drink for a day which made the dizziness & wonky head worse ! !    ps, I'm better again ! YEAH !!  The doc had me drinking Gatorade, taking Nexium, etc.

I'm just getting over the flu and can say that my wonky head is certainly much worse, and so is my neck soarness. I sure hope that it's because of the flu and that I will soon go back to feeling my usual not-as-wonky-headed-as-I-am-now.

If you think about it getting more wonkyheaded with sinus problems does make sense.  I know it happened to mepre-surgery  before I was aware of my AN so I really think this is usual.

I find that when I'm tired I get a bit wobbley and especially if I'm sick, I had an ear infection in my AN ear, I was all over the place.
I think it's just one of those things we ANers will have to learn to live with.

diagnosed 4th Oct 07 with a 3cm left acoustic neuroma,
surgery 9th Nov 07, age 30 at time of surgery,
total hearing loss to left ear, grade 6 facial palsay (getting better)
latest MRI shows regrowth on facial nerve.

hi, am the same i had a sinus infection at the beginning of the week and it made my head feel wonky it really takes it out of you.

Yes!  Whenever the Santa Ana winds kick up out here and I'm exposed to some diabolical pollen from the desert, my sinuses and my inner-ear go crazy and my wonkey-head comes back full blast.

haha! wonky head is a good name for it! yeah i pretty much have wonky head all the time and also the balance thing that i call wibblymy husband and i joke about it and say "she's no fun she just fell right over" which is a quote from an ancient firesign theater record.(anyone remember them?) but yeah when i get sick i'm so down for the count! gotta tell him about the wonky head tho when he gets up!

I can't say that "wonkyhead" comes with getting sick for sure.  What I can say is that in the year (months) leading up to diagnosis, I had about 4 sinus infections and since surgery in May (8 months ago) I haven't had 1 sinus infection (allergies seem to be lessened too).  Its only been about 2 days since I haven't felt the "wonkyhead" so I hope that it stays away for a LONG time.  It would make sense that it spikes around being sick, but I can't verify that with my own experience.

Brian,

Funny that you mention about not having any sinus infections since your surgery. I have had one every year for at least the past 14 yrs - always at Christmas/New Years time. Can't tell you how many office Christmas parties I've missed. This was the first year that I haven't had one. I dont' know if it's because of the surgery, or because I"ve been very good about using my neti....

Don't know about the allergies yet, though. I'm still trying to figure that out - since moving from CO to IA, everything is backwards as far as my allergies.
