Oh, I hope that's not true!!   :o  I need my morning coffee.

I've never heard that before.  Did the doctor tell you why you shouldn't?  I can't see how one cup of coffee a day would hurt anything.  Everything in moderation!   :)

What?  No coffee?  No way, unless your doctor suggested it for some other reason.  That makes no sense to me.

James, it took me a full three months to see any movement at all. Then it was a slight movement by my nose. That got stronger over time, but it took four more months to see new movement in my cheek. It's slow going for sure. I am now at eight months post-op and look fairly normal at rest. I still can't smile, but I am more confident now that it is going to come back -- one of these days.

I know it's hard, but hang in there. Some people did not have any movement for almost a year and have great overall recovery.

I can't address the coffee/soda issue, because I have been caffeine free for other reasons for about fifteen years now. Was it your facial nerve doc telling you this? He may just be out of ideas and willing to point at anything.

Maybe they want you to cut down on caffeine.  You could ask them if that's why they recommended that.  I can't think why else they would recommend that to you.

I don't buy that one either. I drink a couple of cups of coffee every morning, and I'm fine(at least physically :)). I even did so a couple of days after surgery. Unless the doc can be more specific(as to why you shouldn't partake in coffee/soda)I think you're fine to continue in moderation(like Lori said).  In fact, I just read a medical article espousing the long term health benefits of drinking coffee in moderation.

The only reason that I can think of is that caffiene is a vasoconstrictor and maybe he is thinking decreased blood flow to the healing nerve. Pretty far fetched though.

Patrick,

You bring up a good point - they put coffee on my meal tray while I was in the hospital - and it was the regular kind - not the unleaded variety.

Joef - I think your hands might be the only warm part at that point!  At least if the coffee was nice and hot!   :D
