Could anyone recommend a good pillow please?

hello everyone
I remember reading a thread on pillows but I can't find it. Could anyone recommend a good pillow, I can now sleep on my AN side but I wake up and my head feels heavy and a little bit sore for a time.
Just a quick update on my progress: I went back to work last week, part time (I am slowly building up my hours over this month) the first day went well, but when I arrived back home I had a terrible headache and had to go to bed. This only happened on the first day, so I'm putting it down to stress and worry about going back. 
Most days I feel fine, but still have the odd wobbly day. I went to see a audiologist yesterday who is recommending me for a BAHA, I have been given a headband to try for 2 weeks, I will road test this today.
All in all I am doing very well and thank you all for this brilliant forum, it has helped me so much.

p.s I'm also wearing heels, only 2 1/2 inches, but heels non the less

Cathy, I wasn't able to sleep well on my AN side until the 12 month mark, regardless of the pillow I tried.  You are doing great to be working.  I believe most of the head pain is neck related.  I sleep on a medium firm latex foam pillow.  I have the best one I could find.  Since surgery I have mastered sleeping straight out on my back.  I find this to be my most comfortable position.  I thought I'd never do that.

I also have a good quality latex foam pillow which works very well.  I still can't sleep on my AN side but maybe after a year I will.  I sometimes roll onto it in the middle of the night and when I wake up my head hurts and the nerve pain is worse.  You sound like you are doing extremely well.  Continued well wishes.

just like to say i have just noticed i can now sleep on my AN side thats 2 years post op.

I also use a latex foam pillow.  Mine is the orthopedic kind with the thicker edge at the neck because I do have some arthritis in my neck.  Couldn't sleep w/out it!

HI, I  HAD TO PUT A SMALL COMFORTABLE NECK PILLOW AROUND MY NECK AND MY BED PILLOW IS A RALPH LAUREN DOWN PILLOW THAT I CAN JUST MUSH UP TO HOWEVER I WANT IT! I CAN'T SLEEP WITHOUT IT! YOU CAN GET A GOOD NECK PILLOW AT WALMART OR BED BATH AND BEYOND AND MYBED  PILLOW CAME FROM BELKS, BUT YOU MIGHT CAN GET IT FROM BED BATH AND BEYOND AS WELL... I AM 14 MONTHS POST OP AND MY NECK MUSCLES THAT WERE CUT THROUGH MAKES IT HARD TO LIFT  AND TURN MY HEAD AND MY SCAR IS SO TIGHT THAT ALL TOGETHER MAKES FOR A MISERABLE NIGHTS SLEEP IF YOUR PILLOW IS NO HELP!

I just went and got a good supportive orthopedic foam pillow at a quality bedding store for about $60-70 and it has been worth every penny. I can't sleep well without it!

I use memory foam, its great I just sink into it, it really helped, but I didn't sleep on my AN side for about 4-5 months.

Memory foam pillow for me, too.  I think I bought it at J.C.Penney for about $35. back in 2006.  I replaced it with another, larger memory foam pillow when we bought a new king-sized bed last year.  Like many others, I was unable to sleep on my 'AN' side for many months post-op, no matter what type of pillow I used.  Too sensitive on that side and I didn't want to mess up anything.  Eventually, the skull heals and you'll find you can lie on your 'AN' side, again, without discomfort, although a good pillow always helps.  I'm a big fan of the memory foam pillows, which have come down in price and, in my opinion, are very supportive and comfortable.

Hi Cathy,

There were quite a few posts about "pillow talk" back in my recovery thread (which I can't find right now), but the one that works best for me is like the foam memory pillow others mentioned. On this Tempurpedic link it's the one called the "neck" pillow:

I got mine at Bed, Bath & Beyond, but as others said, I think you can find them at department stores, too.
