Methylsulfonylmethane...anybody take this supplement?
« on: February 23, 2009, 06:24:51 pm »
Hello,
I was reading online regarding supplements and MSM a.k.a. methylsulfonylmethane was a good natural anti-inflammitory.
Does anybody take this? If you read it says its a great cell improvement.

Feedback anybody. Would this help with AN's?

Mindy:

From the 'Quackwatch' home page:

No published research studies link MSM to any of the health claims made by its marketers.  Sulfur needed in human metabolism comes from dietary protein. MSM supplements probably make little or no contribution to the body's sulfur requirements. Thus there is no good reason to use MSM supplements.

There is more, here: http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/DSH/msm.html

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

I have used MSM by itself for joint issues in animals and had Ok results.  Much better when combined with glucosamine/chondroitin.  It's in the joint supplement I use on myself also.  I'm not currently taking that right now, because I'm breastfeeding.  I am all about natural and alternative therapies.  Just because there are no double blind studies proving that something works doesn't mean that it doesn't work.  Anecdotal evidence is just as good for me.
